The Stories We Tell Ourselves Matter

Let’s start with something important: this isn’t some fluffy, feel-good positivity spiel. This is about something deeper. The way we talk about ourselves—the story we tell about who we are and what we’re capable of—has a profound impact on the lives we create.

If we spend our days narrating what we can’t do, where we’ll never end up, or how unworthy we feel, those beliefs begin to shape our reality. The limits we impose on ourselves show up everywhere. But here’s the truth: there is a significant difference between the limits that exist in the world and the limits we create in our minds.

There’s a difference between humility and self-criticism. Between uncertainty and outright defeat. Between questioning what’s possible and deciding it’s impossible.

Hope happens when we allow it.
And dear one, things don’t have to be the way they’ve always been.

Sometimes, to create the change we long for, we have to start with the story we tell ourselves. Because the narrative you’ve been holding—the one shaped by trauma, pain, and maybe even the words of those who harmed you—is not the full truth of who you are.

Whose Voice Are You Listening To?
When you’ve experienced relational trauma, it’s tempting—almost automatic—to see yourself through the lens of those who caused you harm. Their words, their criticisms, and their inability to love you fully or treat you with respect can settle into your mind like an unwanted guest. Over time, their voice can start to sound like your own.

But let me say this loud and clear: You are not the person those who harmed you say you are.

Take that in. Read it again. Let it seep into your pores.

This survival tactic—seeing yourself through their lens—may have served a purpose once. It may have helped you navigate a dangerous situation or keep you safe. But now? It’s time to separate their voice from yours.

Reclaiming Your Story
Your authentic story is the one you write. The one free from the filter of your trauma. The one that reflects the fullness of who you are and all you’re capable of.

Healing doesn’t mean denying your past or pretending it didn’t happen. It means looking at it with courage and saying, “This does not define me. I am so much more.”

The story we tell ourselves either limits us or sets us free. And dear one, it’s time to let your story help you soar.

A New Chapter
This isn’t about toxic positivity or ignoring the hard stuff. Healing invites complexity. It’s messy, it’s nonlinear, and it’s real. But the beautiful thing is that as you begin to shift your narrative, you also shift your reality.

You start to believe in possibilities where you once saw only barriers. You give yourself permission to hope. You allow yourself to dream.

To those of you bravely rewriting your story—writing hope and healing into your narrative—I see you.

Your story matters. Your voice matters. And your life can be so much bigger, fuller, and more joyful than the one shaped by someone else’s words.

So, how will you start rewriting your story today?

Thank you for letting me see you,

changing the narrative
