Somatic Coaching will combine all the elements discussed above and the foundations of Somatic Experiencing (SE). Somatic Experiencing resolves symptoms of stress, shock, and trauma that accumulate in our bodies. When we are stuck in patterns of fight, flight, freeze, appease, or dissociate, SE helps us release, recover, and access more of our resilience. Most people worldwide have traumatic experiences in their lifetime, which can have major impacts on their health and well-being. Even those who may be unsure if they have experienced trauma are likely to have developed conditioned tendencies from childhood that may impact their adult functioning and relationships.
Coaching focuses on skills, techniques, exercises, strategies, education, practice, and application. Coaching is not intended to diagnose mental health concerns, prescribe, or treatment plan for psychological factors.
Trauma shifts us out of our bodies, and healing requires us to return home to ourselves. Our bodies store information from the past that can create activation and unrest in the present. When we’ve endured something harmful, violent, abusive, or neglectful we may find that our brain and body don’t effectively communicate with one another, thus making it difficult to differentiate the ‘back then’ from the ‘right now’. Through learning how to be gentle with ourselves, and beginning to befriend our internal experience, we can feel into the changes we’ve long been yearning for.
Coaching does not follow a medical model, and no mental health evaluation or diagnosis will be given. Medical and clinical treatment plans will not be utilized in coaching sessions and coaching is not a substitute for therapeutic mental health treatment. You may choose to work with a coach, a therapist, or both.
Traumatic experiences can get stored in the body, leading to a range of physical symptoms and emotional distress. Working with the body, as in approaches like Somatic Experiencing, can help folks process and release trauma that may be held in their bodies, leading to embodied healing and symptom relief. Additionally, learning to identify and regulate bodily sensations can improve emotion regulation. Folks can develop a greater awareness of how their bodies react to stressors and learn to manage their emotional responses effectively.
Expected benefits of Somatic Coaching: There are so many benefits to somatic work, but one that is especially important is building self-awareness and reconnecting with your body. It can feel scary at first, but tuning into bodily sensations can enhance your knowing of your self and it can help you come to a greater understanding and appreciation for your body. Through somatic work, you will gain a better understanding of your triggers, emotional responses, and patterns of behavior by paying attention to physical sensations and reactions.
What is somatic coaching?
Somatic coaching is all about integration and returning home to yourself. Somatic coaching can help you build safety and trust in your body, come to understand your internal reactions and sensations, and help you release the held trauma responses that are getting in your way of healing.
How is somatic coaching different from therapy?
Therapy focuses on diagnosing and treating mental health concerns. Somatic coaching is not therapy—it’s about exploring your goals, patterns, and possibilities with a body-aware lens. While therapy often looks at the past, coaching leans toward building skills and somatic awareness for the present so that you can feel more resourced in the future.
Can somatic coaching be done online?
Yes. Many clients find that online somatic coaching is just as effective as in-person sessions. You’ll be guided through practices virtually, with adaptations for your environment, so you can access tools for nervous system regulation and self-connection from anywhere.

“Thank you so much for all of the wisdom this past year. Your thoughts have been a great companion to the work I’m doing in therapy.”
As a fellow therapist, one skill I learned in my courses with Danica and have taken with me throughout my own clinical work has been to value the importance of the therapeutic relationship when it comes to trauma healing.
I have taken many courses with Danica on a variety of topics! That said, some things that remain consistent throughout all her courses would be her passionate and empathetic presence. Regardless of what the topic is, Danica’s zeal for mental well-being and trauma healing remain.
I’ll never forget her words—as therapists, we are vigorously intervening on our client’s side, even when they aren’t on their own side. I also learned that the only way we can really do that is to make sure we have already laid the foundation of safety and containment within the therapeutic relationship. I have carried this skill with me for every single one of my clients, and I can’t imagine doing therapy any other way.
I have loved and gained so much knowledge from all the courses I have taken with Danica, and eagerly await future ones!
I've learned that my body makes sense, and I make sense.
I am more aware of my body than I have ever been, and that's helped me heal in ways I didn't know were possible.
Somatic work has helped me to meet myself with curiosity rather than judgment.
Danica helped me understand the value of being gentle with myself, and that has changed my relationship with my body.
